Testing Procedures

In order to test my design I will ride my current short board and the new board design on the same day and have someone videotape me. I will be able to explain the points at which I’m having trouble on my current short board versus the improvements riding the new board design. These problems include that my current short board will not keep me on the wave, the new design should move faster and allow you to gain speed in small mushy wave conditions. This will allow you to keep momentum and stay on the wave. Another problem the board must improve is wave count; the new board will allow you to catch more waves in the small conditions because it has more surface area than the typical short board.
The setting for my testing procedures will be on a 1-2ft day in New Jersey, I will be testing the board in Long Branch. The idea is to have the waves be as small, yet still contestable. In competitions this is judged by if the waves are “ride-able”. The test procedures will identify the problems and show the improvements through video footage. In the video plan to play the clip (attempt at a wave) and stop the video to explain using text and arrows what the problem is. Next, I will show a similar wave on the new short board design and show where these problems are fixed.

Conditions:
1-2ft mushy surf, see photo below

1) Arrive at beach (the pit, Brighton Ave, Long Branch, NJ)
2) Paddle out on regular short board
3) Attempt 10 waves
4) Paddle out on new board
5) Attempt 10 waves
